Art Challenge 2015: Produce one artwork per week
“Whereas 2014 was about building my body muscles, 2015 will be about building my creativity muscles.”
In 2015 I made a resolution to create one piece of art every week. I called it …. *drum roll* …
“My Art Challenge 2015”
Creative huh? ;-)
This would mean reaching into the well of my experiences, memories, tactility and learnings and pulling out … something. In doing so at the rate of one-per-week means I had to be efficient, speedy, and bally-well productive. No time for naval-gazing, second-guessing, self-doubting or making excuses.
I knew it would be a challenge. And I was good with that — challenges motivate me. They force me to cross comfort-zones and dig deeper than I would otherwise. But it was good!
I stopped worrying about the “what will people think?” and “why isn’t this perfect?” stuff that bogs the creative down. I began just getting the paint out of the tube and onto the canvas in a way that made me happy.
I also became a lot more confident in my arts practice, to the point where I began running art workshops, hosting professional artists and their workshops, and committing to a solo exhibition!
I blogged about every single piece I produced for this project, (which was a bigger challenge than the art challenge itself!) so I hope you enjoy not only the art, but the words, thoughts and experiences that accompany each piece.
