How 6 candles can mean so much more…
According to several numerology sites, the purpose of a person born on the 6th is to send out love, and to teach others. It is perfectly balanced and divisible by odd (1 and 3) and even numbers (2), and so is considered the most harmonious of all single-digit numbers.
According to Avia Venefica,
“The spiritual meaning of number Six also deals with enlightenment; specifically “lighting” our path in areas we require spiritual and mental balance. Sixes beckon us to administer compassion and consciously choose forgiveness in a situation.”
I love the word “light”, and I love the symbolic meaning of the number 6 — love, balance, harmony and care.
So how to represent all of these elements in a painting about ‘six’?
Playing with the concept of “light” I came across the measurement of candle light — one candle gives out one candela of light. (It’s how lighthouses measure the strength of their lights, based on how many candles they would have burned in the olden days before electricity.)
More interesting though, is that candlepower measures the intensity of the light falling on a target, rather than the total amount of light emitted.
And so I began with my layering — pink roses for love, blues and greens for harmony, orange for balance and my whole heart poured into the painting, for care. And, 6 candles to represent ‘six’. The light cast by their flame falls gently on the vases and gourds around them. The light is ambient, rather than emitted.
Herewith, the result: Love and Candle Light.
