Well, colour me sassy, but this piece — my “Week 3 of the Art Challenge of 2015” — just FLOWED.
Every application of colour was a joy, and the FLOW of it coming together was effortless.
“Effortless” and “art by Anita” have never gone in the same sentence before. Google it, and I promise you, you won’t find anything like it. (Not about me, anyway.) But this piece may be a catalyst for me!
Let me tell you why I’m so freakin’ happy about this turn of events…
Feeling Week 2‘s deadline lunge at me like a rogue zombie on the loose, was scary. As a result, I kicked up my GO GO GO and began working on Week 3’s piece straight away.
Thinking I’d be needing every second of the two weeks up my sleeve, I threw myself into it 100%. I have to confess… I have actually shocked myself that I resolved a piece in one day, rather than my usual month, or sometimes years.
It just flowed. It was easy, joyous, and happened serendipitously, wondrously, effortlessly, easily.
That is why I’m delirious about signing my name to this piece.
So rather than wait for Week 3 to roll around, I’m so thrilled, I’m posting this in advance. I introduce to you… Orange Flow. (This is a preview — the full size image is in the slideshow, further down.)
A bit of a play on words given that the subject is orange flowers, but mostly a nod to the ease in which this piece came together.
Flow, incidentally, happens to be one of my favourite beautiful words for women.
One of the definitions given by the Free Dictionary is “To exhibit a smooth or graceful continuity”, while psychologist Mihaly Csikszentmihalyi, theorised that flow is a state of complete immersion in an activity. He says that being in a mental state of flow is…
“… being completely involved in an activity for its own sake. The ego falls away. Time flies. Every action, movement, and thought follows inevitably from the previous one, like playing jazz. Your whole being is involved, and you’re using your skills to the utmost.“
In goddess-speak, flow happens when there is no obstacle to achieving a dream, or in realising a heart’s desire.
- what you’re doing feels easy, you are in flow;
- things happen in a way that makes you happy, you are in flow;
- the heart sings at the end result, you are in flow;
- you experience timelessness, you are in flow;
- the inner-critic is silent, you are in flow;
- you can release attachment to expectations, you are in flow.
And when I find it easy to present to you, Orange Flow, then it stands to reason I am in, well… flow!!
