The day I smashed through creative block and created a champion piece…

Creative block schmock… Just smash that thing!

In the 52nd week of my 52 week challenge, I am exploding — yes exploding — with vitality.

Not only have I completed my #ArtChallenge2015 (sweating, panting, clawing my way through some sections of the journey!), but I’ve had major smashing-through with productivity and confidence.

You will recall I sat poolside in Bali back in September and began teasing out a theme for my first solo exhibition. And last week I finally pulled together a concept that would make up the bulk of my body of work. I knew I wanted it to be about colour, with Owl as its champion, but I didn’t know how to choose one piece to be the feature — the “pin-up girl”.

I smashed that creative block today… Yeeeeeuuuuuuwwwwww!!

While dancing salsa to French cafe music, I had a chat to my canvas. “Love,” I said, “Pet, we’re gonna create magic today!”

And so I did. I made a champion piece for the exhibition, to shine amongst the 50 hand-painted prints that are laid out on my studio table…

Here it is… Colour Me Happy — the title piece of my first solo exhibition!

So there you have it…

To smash creative block, dance salsa and have a firm-but-playful conversation with your canvas. Then, get to work!

Shine on!
