Anyone who has seen me conducting a wedding ceremony will know I’m partial to a flower crown. As much as I love them though, I don’t seem to have the courage to go all out, Frida Kahlo style. What a gal. What honesty, brilliance and gusto! All the ingredients to make a perfect muse!
Frida Kahlo (1907 – 1954) was a Mexican painter who painted her self-portrait prolifically, using vibrant colours and always with an abundance of flowers in her hair. Of her 143 paintings, 55 are self-portraits, and not always flattering… She said, “I never painted dreams. I painted my own reality.”
So today, for Week 29’s effort in the Art Challenge 2015, I decided to have a crack at painting a portrait Frida Kahlo style… It’s kind of a success because the eyes are gorgeous, but it’s kind of not… I just could not bring myself to paint the monobrow!
Oh well, I still like this painting, even if it’s not truly a portrait of Frida — more, it’s a portrait of her essence and bad-ass flower crown 😀
